It all started with a roll of thick paper, kindly donated by the Finnish paper company UPM. It is 4 meters wide and 97 meters long, quite heavy, and hard to move and to transport. Even though the initial idea was to cut it into smaller pieces, after filling about 30 meters, it peeped out the aim to fill the whole roll all the way till the end as a single piece of work, till it became almost an obsession.

We are talking about a really crazy venture, considering that the drawing technique is based on tiny dots drawn with thousands of sharp pencils. Drawing sessions of 10 to 12 hours are possible thanks to a bucket full of pencils that have been all well sharpened beforehand.

Despite these very basic ingredients, the outcome resembles the appearance of more sophisticated techniques like etching or engraving. For this reason, full enjoyment of the work requires at the same time a broad outlook from afar, to appreciate the whole composition, together with a very close look, to appreciate the finest details.
